Q3: What are the kit cards made of and what is printed on them?
A. The cards are made of high-quality white PVC with a polyester high
gloss laminate top sheet. General dimensions are the same as a standard
CR80 credit card. They are printed on the module side with each part
number and the CardLogix logo. The other side is blank.
Q4: If I need more cards can I purchase them in small quantities? What
about production?
A. Additional cards can be purchased, with a $50 minimum order. Cards
are packed in quantities of 10, 50, and 100. CardLogix stocks a fairly
large finished goods inventory of standard part numbers for memory and
microprocessors. We have the manufacturing capacity to supply your
volume needs after your design phase is completed.
Q5: Does Smart Toolz™ support my ID/Badging Application?
A. The Application Tools that are unique to our kit are a perfect
compliment to a ID/Badging System of photo acquisition and printing. For
a complete badging application see our information on CardFive Professional. The tools allow you as a developer to specify what is stored where on your network and cards.
CardLogix employs a cold lamination process with a specific type of plastic, versus injection molding or the hot melt process, for chip module implantation. This means that the cards work well with many dye sublimation printers such as DataCard, Eltron and Fargo in ID/Badging applications.
CardLogix cards have several advantages, such as higher scratch resistance, better dye absorption and a smoother card surface for longer print head life. Our card plastic is specifically designed for efficient punching of holes, leaving no marks or irregularities. The back of the card is not disturbed with module implantation, leaving more usable printing space.
Q6: I have an idea that will require resources beyond my own staff. Can
you help me with the project?
A. Yes. We typically refer you to a CardLogix authorized Smart Partner
that is familiar with our products and your application. If your project
requires a custom operating system or specialty hardware design, our Engineering Services can
evaluate your requirements and develop a solution for a nominal consulting fee.
Q7: I have an application for issuing cards with individual credit card
numbers placed into the chip. Can you help me with the project?
A. For credit card applications, CardLogix works only with financial
institutions directly. Only these original bank card issuers can issue
credit card numbers. You must contact them directly.
Q8: Can I develop a multi-application system using Smart Toolz™?
A. You can develop simple multiple applications on memory cards using
Smart Toolz™. For robust and secure multi-application solutions that
require microprocessor card technology, you will need the CardLogix

A. Yes, but the initial purchase of each item is significantly less
expensive in the kit format. Please contact us for details.
Q13: Can I incorporate the Winplex® DLL into my application? What does it
cost?
A. There is no charge if you abide by the terms and conditions of the
Winplex® License Agreement provided in the kit's User Guide.
Q14: Is site licensing available for the software?
A. It is not needed if you abide by the terms and conditions of the
Winplex® License Agreement provided in the kit's User Guide.
Q15: Which databases does CardLogix support? Does the CardLogix solution
have a built-in database, or a built-in Relational Database Management
System using ODBC API's? If so, what database solutions are supported,

A. Major Revisions will be distributed on a CD as necessary.
M.O.S.T. Toolz™ FAQ
Q1: Why must I sign a letter of confidentiality before receiving
the M.O.S.T. Toolz™ Kit?
A: In order to supply you with the essential technical data
needed to use the kit, CardLogix must share sensitive information, that,
if misused, could harm our intellectual property and the security of
your application. We follow industry standards for confidentiality that
protects both seller and buyer.
Q2: What types of cards ship with the M.O.S.T. Toolz™ Development
Kit?
A. The Kit includes Two CLXSU190KF6/T=0ED-LL cards, each with
approximately 22k bytes of user memory. Two of these cards allow you to
create files and structures on them. To minimize security threats, only
100 power-on-resets are allowed for each card, and then the card
destroys itself. This system limits the card from being used as a
cloning source in case it is not destroyed or returned after your
project is complete. These cards are used to develop the file structure
and password settings for production cards, which we then permanently
set-up before shipping the final product to you. Once the files are
"burned in" to the card, no one can read them or write to them without
your permission. Production cards are manufactured exactly to your file
structure instructions. You supply the file structure on a disk and on a
prototyping card for production manufacture. Additional development
cards are typically given as samples as needed.
Three other cards have a sample file structure permanently programmed at
shipment. These cards feature an unalterable file structures and are
used to check out and learn about communications, encryption and
authentication routines.
Q3: Does the M.O.S.T.™ COS allow for electronic purse files on the
chip? If yes, how many purses are allowed per card?
A: Our COS allows you to design up to ten purses on the chip.
There is a practical limit to the number of files due to the overhead
needed to build the file structure, passwords, access codes etc., that
occupy the same physical area as the card data. There is a maximum of
20K Bytes available to be used for files on the CLXSU190KF6/T=0ED cards.
Q4:Does this tool allow me to develop Java Cards?
A. No we recommend other tools for this job, please talk to your
CardLogix representative for Java card samples and tools.
Q5: If I am using an already installed PCSC reader can't I just
develop on it?
A. Due to the inconsistencies in adhering to the ISO and PCSC
specifications across wide variety of readers and from manufacturer to
manufacturer. CardLogix has chosen to support the readers shipped in the
kit for the development process. But after card development we fully
support any PCSC compliant reader with Winplex® and our cards.
Q6: Can I choose the level of protection on files that are
created?
A. Yes, The M.O.S.T.™ Card File Creation Utility enables the
issuer to pre-set all of the card and file attributes before production.
You tell us what you want via your own file structure since the
protection is pre-programmed at the factory.
Q7: Since M.O.S.T.™ Cards are file-based is any file created
during the manufacturing process? If so, can this file be personalized?
Is this file unprotected, protected, or protected by Programming?
A. We re-create and fuse the files you design during our
manufacturing process. This includes all of the files attributes
regarding security that you put in your file supplied to us . CardLogix
can further customize a card to your requirements for protection
(serialized, loaded with information, transport protected or certificate
loaded) based on a customer supplied specification.
Q8: Is the CardLogix M.O.S.T.™ Card Operating System interoperable
with other card operating systems?
A. Card operating systems do not function in the same way as a
computer OS, therefore interoperability cannot be defined in the same
terms. The CardLogix M.O.S.T.™ Card Operating System (COS) executes all
standard ISO commands as well as the CardLogix enhanced command set.
This makes CardLogix cards functionally compatible with other COS, which
have these commands in common.
